Early Pregnancy Scan

Available from:  5 to 8 Weeks Gestation

Objective of Scan:

  • Confirmation of an early/viable pregnancy
  • Measurement taken of the gestation sac and (if possible) the Crown Rump Length (CRL)
  • Detection of heartbeat. Please note a fetal heartbeat may not be detected if you are less 6 Weeks
Inclusive of:

  • Dating & assessment report
  • 2x 2D b/w images in card mounted frame
  • May involve a transvaginal/Internal scan if the views are not clear
  • 15 minutes appointment

Further Information:

This scan is recommended if there is bleeding, pain, history of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, IVF treatment or history of long term medical conditions.

Please drink at least 1 pint (0.5ltr)of water prior to your scan appointment. Please try to refrain from emptying your bladder before your scan.

All scans are performed by a qualified sonographers with diagnostic obstetric scanning experience.

Please note that it is your responsibility to forward your report/findings to your GP/Healthcare Provider.

FAQs

What if I am unsure of my LMP dates?

We offer early pregnancy scans from 5 weeks. A gestation sac should be seen but a heartbeat may not always be guaranteed, especially if you are very early. Guidelines recommend a follow up scan is recommended in 7-14 days if the pregnancy is inconclusive.

Does an internal scan always need to be performed?

No. Each scan is dependent on each individual’s examination. If you are less than 6 weeks then an internal scan is usually necessary . This will be discussed with you by the Sonographer before proceeding with the internal examination and obtain your consent.

Do I need to drink water before my scan appointment?

Our guidance is to drink approximately 1 litre of water, at least 20 mins prior to the scan, however, we advise you drink as much as you can tolerate and to not make yourself uncomfortable.

Who will perform the scan?

All of our sonographers are qualified with diagnostic obstetric ulltrasound scanning experience, and are accredited by either the Health Professional Council, The General Medical Council, Society of Radiographers or Royal College of Midwives and work within the NHS alongside their role with My Ultra Healthcare Ltd.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?

Please bring your along your hospital notes (if you have been given them) and reports to assist our Sonographers if a referral is required.

Will you advise me of any abnormalities?

Please note, our scans do not replace any of your NHS scans. During your appointment a general well-being check is performed on the baby, in an event of any abnormality being detected, we will discuss this with you and provide a full report for to forward to your health practitioner.

Do I still need to visit the NHS if I had a scan with you?

Yes, our services are a complementary service, which works alongside the NHS.

What happens in terms of referrals?

We advise all our customers to advise their GP or midwife know of their intention to have a scan with us. On arrival at My Ultra Healthcare we will ask you to complete a registration form, where your GP/midwife details will be requested. If from the scan there shows a need to contact or share any information regarding you or your baby, you are responsible for providing the report to your GP/Midwife.

I have medical insurance; can I claim for my scans?

My Ultra Healthcare will be paid directly by the patient and invoice will be provided. Any claims made are between the insurance company and patient and is based on the decision of the insurance company. My Ultra Healthcare would advise to check with your insurance company first, to avoid disappointment.

How many guests/children can come with me?

We recognise the importance of having friends and family attend with you, especially with 3D/4D. We are happy for family and friends to attend, however due to limitations in space and seating, we are able to accommodate up to 5 people with the patient and children are welcome too.
